Include blacksmith and harness shop accounts, of William Fletcher, Gaines Cross Roads, Va., 1833-1860, also containing mill accounts, miscellaneous accounts, and an incomplete copy of the will of William Fletcher; and two manuscript arithmetic books, ca. 1844 and 1862, the latter containing receipts, 1866, of Hamilton S. Fletcher for wages paid to hired laborers. Also include memorandum book kept by the tax collector, 1819, of Culpeper County, Va.; account book, 1824-1839, of a general store and miscellaneous accounts kept by Humphrey Isaac Huff for John S. Green, Culpeper County, with added entries on horse pedigrees. Also include notebook listing executions, 1832, of Fauquier County Court, kept by William C. Ashby, deputy sheriff; day book, 1834-1836, of Battle Mills, Va., with scattered general store entries, 1811-1815; and copies of three land warrants, 1830-1833, for a canal in Culpeper and Rappahannock counties, Va. Also include deeds, plats, and indentures, 1789-1890, for Green family land holdings in Culpeper and Rappahannock counties, Va.; receipts, accounts, 1879-1880, concerning the estate of Charles Green; a list of slaves owned by the Green family, 1861; articles of agreement, 1826, settling a lawsuit over an altercation between James Green and W.B. Long; and two genealogies for Green family. Papers of James Green include an agricultural draft exemption, 1864; a military pass, 1865; letter, August, 1865, from Walter J. Irvine describing life in New Orleans, La., and the employment of freedmen. Papers of Charles Green include a loyalty oath, 1862, Fauquier County, Va.; letters to James Green, 1863-1865, written while in the Confederate Army, concerning Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg, Va (1863), his engagement, movements of Sigel's troops in Northern Virginia (1864), and encouragement to visit while railroads are still operating (1865). Also family correspondence, 1851-1887, concerning friends, finances, life in Texas and New Orleans, and employment of freedmen.
